What are the advantages of an Alcohol-Free Sanitizer?

Clean Hands Pure Heart is alcohol free and therefore has none of the ill effects associated with alcohol-gel sanitizers. Research from several studies has concluded that the frequent use of alcohol based sanitizers actually increases the number of bacteria on the skin.

Alcohol gels and rubs strip away the skin’s natural oils and severely dry the skin with repeated use. This effect has many negative implications that reduce the effectiveness of alcohol based products in real world environments. For example, users of alcohol based products often complain of the drying and irritation resulting from prolonged use, and are therefore prone to avoid their repeated use. Additionally, alcohol based products not only dry the skin, but also cause the formation of small cracks in the skin increasing the skin’s capacity to trap and carry disease-causing germs.

Alcohol begins evaporating from the skin almost immediately after it is applied. Upon evaporation of the alcohol, its germ killing power is gone, leaving the skin dry, chapped, and susceptible to infection.

Alcohol based sanitizers contain as much as 70% ethyl alcohol, and therefore are highly flammable. In contrast, Clean Hands Pure Heart contains no alcohol and is non-flammable. Today, Clean Hands Pure Heart is present in commercial passenger aircraft, elementary schools, public recreation areas, and many other environments where fire safety, as well as hygiene is primary concerns.

Unlike alcohol, Clean Hands Pure Heart will not sting or burn when it comes in contact with small cuts and scrapes. The patented SAB delivery system found in Clean Hands Pure Heart actually has a soothing effect on small cuts and abrasions.

What is the germ-killing ingredient in Clean Hands Pure Heart?

Clean Hands Pure Heart contains the germ-killing ingredient Benzalkonium ( ben-zal-coney-um) chloride, or BAC. This antiseptic has been used for over 60 years in hospitals and doctors offices. It is approved for safety and effectiveness in antiseptic applications ranging from skin treatments for minor irritations (e.g. Bactine®) to surface sanitizers (e.g. Lysol®). It has even been approved by the FDA for use as a germ-killing ingredient in mouthwashes.

What is Woodward’s patented SAB delivery system?

Woodward Laboratories’ patented SAB technology is comprised of Surfactants, the would healing agent Allantoin, and Benzalkonium Chloride. SAB technology is unique and the key to Clean Hands Pure Heart’s superior efficacy as an antimicrobial instant hand sanitizer.

While there are other BAC containing products available, they do not contain Woodward’s patented SAB technology. Furthermore, these less effective products do not meet the FDA performance standard for healthcare personnel hand washing. BAC is an environment-sensitive molecule and not all BAC formulations are effective at killing germs in real world environments. In many cases, these less robust formulations can even impede the effectiveness of the BAC molecule.

What is a film former, like Allantoin? What does it do?

Film formers like Allantoin is a naturally occurring botanical substance that aids in healing dry, chapped, and damaged skin. While it softens skin, it aids in the removal of dead skin cells and enhancing moisture. Allantoin binds with and protects living skin cells, leaving the unwanted germs exposed to the germ-killing ingredient in Clean Hands Pure Heart. The addition of Allantoin in Clean Hands Pure Heart makes it beneficial to the skin, while improving Clean Hands Pure Heart’s effectiveness.

If I can still smell the hand sanitizer does that mean it is still working?

Once an alcohol-based sanitizer has evaporated, its killing power is gone. Some brands of alcohol-based sanitizers add heavy fragrance to the formulas to try and give a sense of security to the unwary consumer…(“as long as I can smell it, it must still be working”)…however, as soon as the alcohol has evaporated, it is no longer killing germs.

Clean Hands Pure Heart, when absorbed, leaves no detectable fragrance from perfumes because it contains none. However, Clean Hands Pure Heart has a proven persistence of activity, which means it continues to work, with repeated use, even after it is absorbed.

Why does skin become softer with repeated use of Clean Hands Pure Heart?

Clean Hands Pure Heart is formulated to be highly beneficial to the skin. It does not break down the skin’s natural water barrier, as do alcohol-containing products; instead, Clean Hands Pure Heart protects the barrier and helps preserve the skin’s natural oils. Clean Hands Pure Heart contains Allantoin, a natural emollient and skin softener that helps the skin stay healthy especially with repeated use.

Does Clean Hands Pure Heart work better with repeated use? Why?

Yes. Clean Hands Pure Heart’s performance not only exceeds FDA standards, but its effectiveness actually improves with repeated use. This unique formula does not contain alcohol, and will not dry or irritate the skin. The germ-killing action of Clean Hands Pure Heart is persistent, which means its effect continues even after the product has been absorbed into the hands.

Alcohol based sanitizers have emollients. Do they work as well as Clean Hands Pure Heart to keep skin soft and smooth?

Repeated use of alcohol based hand sanitizers leaves the skin dry and actually more susceptible to invasion by disease-causing germs. Some makers of alcohol sanitizers have added emollients, such as Aloe Vera, to try and reduce the drying effect of the alcohol. However, the emollients remain on the skin after the alcohol has evaporated, and these emollients become sticky. The remaining emollient is sticky, unpleasant to feel, and can be transferred to food. The sticky emollient residue can actually become a “germ magnet” and collect germs from surrounding surfaces. A better solution for disinfecting is the unique germ-killing, alcohol-free formula found in Clean Hands Pure Heart that leaves the skin cleaner and softer with repeated use.

Is Clean Hands Pure Heart supposed to be mixed with water or diluted before use?

No. Clean Hands Pure Heart is designed to be used as is- right from the bottle- anywhere, anytime.

Is Clean Hands Pure Heart safe to use right before eating?

Absolutely,Clean Hands Pure Heart is meant to be left on the skin until it is absorbed, usually 15 to 20 seconds. Used as directed, Clean Hands Pure Heart will not transfer to food.

The National Food Safety Database section on hand sanitizers requires that “an antimicrobial product applied to the hands is both safe and effective when applied to human skin, and that it be a safe food additive when applied to bare hands that will come into direct contact with food.” Clean Hands Pure Heart meets these requirements.

Aside from our alcohol-free hand sanitizer being safer to use when compared to alcohol-based products, and the fact that Clean Hands Pure Heart is 2x-3x more cost effective when compared to legacy, alcohol-based products such as Purell, why use Clean Hands Pure Heart brand alcohol-free, rinse free, fragrance free hand sanitizers vs. traditional alcohol-based products?

When recognizing that proper hand hygiene is the best way to mitigate exposure to cold and flu, and the spread of germs, bacteria and viruses, we believe that washing hands with the appropriate soap and water is the first line of defense. But we find ourselves in situations where washing with soap and water is not convenient.

There are two choices to make when selecting a hand sanitizer. The legacy, alcohol-based, icky gel, flammable, toxic, and funny smelling product, or alternative, non-alcohol products such as Clean Hands Pure Heart.

Clean Hands Pure Heart soft foam formula works better than alcohol-based gels; our alcohol-free formula is well-documented with regard to effectiveness at killing a wide spectrum of pathogens. Clean Hands Pure Heart is antiseptic and hypoallergenic; it can safely be applied to scrapes and cuts without causing sting.

Clean Hands Pure Heart is 2x-3x MORE COST EFFECTIVE than alcohol-based gels. This means that if Comparing bottle sizes, a 3.4oz bottle of Clean Hands Pure Heart will last upwards of three times longer Vs alcohol based products. Why? Because alcohol based products lose their effectiveness within seconds after applying and Clean Hands Pure Heart foam format dispenses the recommended volume for each application.

Unlike alcohol-based products within both consumer and institutional settings (Purell, GermX and others), Clean Hands Pure Heart does not introduce dry and irritated skin.

Clean Hands Pure Heart is non-flammable , non-toxic and PROTECTS the skin. On the other hand, alcohol-based products are notorious for destroying protective skin cells, they are infamous for introducing flash point (flammability) risk, and they can cause infection, whether as a result of dry/irritated skin, or if applied to open cuts or abrasions. For kids or adults, this is a sensation that is Not Popular.

Clean Hands Pure Heart is Kosher-certified and Sharia compliant, making these products that much more compelling for a variety of venues.

Where is Clean Hands Pure Heart manufactured?

In cGMP and FDA certified aseptic facilities filling facilities that are continuously monitored and conform to ISO 13485 guidelines.

Why does the US Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and, as a result, certain “local public officials”, seem to “recommend” alcohol-based gels when washing with soap and water is not available, but these “experts” make little mention of safer, equally-effective, NON-ALCOHOL hand sanitizer products that have come to market in recent years?

Since the late 1990’s, instead of performing their own due diligence, most “experts” have simply deferred to the CDC’s 50-page “hand hygiene guideline” for guidance on the topic of hand sanitizers. The CDC manual, initially written in 1996 exclusively for professional health care workers within hospital settings, does include caveats and cautionary statements with regard to the dangers of alcohol-based sanitizers, but merely provides a one-sentence reference to “emerging non-alcohol hand sanitizer alternatives.” The CDC document, now 14-years old, down-played focus on non-alcohol sanitizers and stated: “there is not enough current evidence with regard to non-alcohol products…”; despite the fact that most of those products were known to use active ingredients that conform to FDA monographs governing OTC antibacterial and antiseptic products.

In September 2009, the CDC issued a memorandum acknowledging that public schools and universities throughout the country have since come to their own conclusions re: the inappropriateness of alcohol-based sanitizers, and to embrace non-alcohol hand sanitizing products. Worth pointing out to the reader, these decisions to ban alcohol hand sanitizers, and to embrace non-alcohol products have been made in the midst of one of the most publicized pandemics in modern history.

The excerpt to CDC’s memo:

Influenza may spread via contaminated hands or inanimate objects that become contaminated with influenza viruses. CDC recommends that students and staff be encouraged to wash their hands often with soap and water, especially after coughing or sneezing…If soap and water are not available, and if alcohol-based products are not allowed in the school, other HAND SANITIZERS THAT DO NOT CONTAIN ALCOHOL MAY BE USEFUL…”

A small step for non-alcohol hand sanitizer makers, but a large step for a government agency that is as difficult to turn as a battleship might be.

This is why the CDC and various other organizations recommend hand-washing or use of appropriate hand sanitizers, when soap and water is not available.
